Skipping all the boring details, the town has had wicked mad IT issues and identity theft issues for staff that have had catastrophic results for some. Money ($100,000) has been appropriated for a new server and updated financial software, and there seems to be finally a legitimate discussion for a new website using a similar government platform service other towns use. There was also a discussion about having a town mass email platform as well. Discussion last night included having a plan that, to us here at Indialantic Living, seems overkill. Larger towns have an “opt-in or out” option that pertains to types of news, such as infrastructure, budget, events, or specific work areas. As a town of 1,582 households—without the possibility of growth as we are built out—Indialantic would be well-served by a simple email from the local government. To fragment into whatever sections that could exist (your guess is as good as mine) would render it so watered down as to be useless. Make your thoughts known in two ways: (1) email townhall@indialantic.com and kindly voice your opinion; and/or (2) attend a council meeting and, during the three-minute public comment section, exercise your democratic right to speak. There’s no need to take up the whole three minutes, but your voice is quite necessary. The next meeting is July 12; all meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month. The town is in the budget planning phase and will be up for a Council vote in August or September, but it must be in place before October 1. The entire town council agenda was 260 pages, mostly about the budget, IT, and Waste Management information on a new contract. It is worth a read, no matter how slowly or even quickly or boring.
